Ebru Yaşar and Bengü Beker Deliver a Haunting Masterclass in Heartbreak with “O Beni Sırtımdan Vurdu”
Turkish music icons Ebru Yaşar and Bengü Beker have joined forces to deliver a breathtaking modern rendition of the timeless classic, “O Beni Sırtımdan Vurdu” (He Stabbed Me in the Back). Originally released in 1999 as part of Ebru Yaşar’s legendary, star-making album *Seni Anan Benim İçin Doğurmuş*, this song has stood the test of time as a definitive anthem of betrayal and emotional devastation. Written and composed by the celebrated Suat Aydoğan, the track captures the raw, universal agony of being deceived by someone you trusted most, only to watch them move on with your deepest enemy.
In this powerful new collaboration, the track bridges generations by pairing Ebru Yaşar’s signature Arabesque-pop authority with Bengü Beker’s brilliant, emotive vocal presence. The production strips away the typical studio clutter to focus entirely on the dramatic storytelling and vocal synergy between the two artists. As their voices intertwine over the haunting melodies, they successfully elevate the composition from a nostalgic 90s masterpiece into a sophisticated, modern-day cinematic experience. The intense lyrical themes of sleepless nights, trembling hands, and the raging fire ignited by memory resonate just as deeply today as they did over two decades ago.
For international listeners exploring the depths of Turkish emotional music, “O Beni Sırtımdan Vurdu” serves as the perfect introduction to the unique “Arabesque” genre—where profound sorrow transforms into high art. This collaborative music video is more than just a musical release; it is a captivating visual and vocal dialogue that honors the song’s rich history while breathing new, unforgettable life into its tragic narrative.
