Investigation Launched into Mabel Matiz’s New Music Video “Ha Leylim”
ISTANBUL — The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an official ex-officio investigation into Turkish pop singer Mabel Matiz’s latest track and music video, “Ha Leylim,” over allegations of obscenity.
According to the official statement from the prosecutor’s office, the lyrics and visual elements of the music video, which was recently released on digital platforms, are being assessed under Article 226 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), which governs obscenity offenses. Authorities noted that the legal process is underway to determine the factual basis of the allegations.
High-Profile Cameos
Directed by Sinan Tuncay, the music video reinterprets traditional wedding rituals and instantly sparked widespread debate on social media upon its release. The project features prominent Turkish television and media figures, including Seda Sayan, Çağlar Ökten, and Hazal Türesan.
A Familiar Legal Hurdle
This is not the artist’s first encounter with legal scrutiny over his creative work. Mabel Matiz previously faced similar obscenity charges regarding the lyrics of his song “Perperişan.” That case ultimately concluded with an acquittal.
The upcoming phases of the investigation will determine whether the judiciary will enforce any access bans on the music video or summon the artist for an official statement.
