Mehmet Yeşil Yeşil: The Technical Virtuoso of the Er Meydanı
A master of strategy and one of the most respected figures in Turkish Oil Wrestling, Mehmet Yeşil Yeşil was born on June 27, 1986, in the Aksu district of Antalya. Carrying a name that honors his grandfather’s nickname “Yeşil,” Mehmet has become a symbol of technical excellence and sportsmanship. Rising through the ranks from a successful freestyle wrestling background, he has spent over two decades at the elite level, earning the admiration of fans for his calm demeanor and his ability to win high-pressure matches in the “Golden Point” (Altın Puan) overtime periods.
A Decade of Excellence: The Back-to-Back Golden Belt Legend
Mehmet Yeşil Yeşil’s name is etched in the History of Kırkpınar as one of the few wrestlers to secure consecutive championships in the modern era. His historic peak came in 2009 and 2010, when he claimed the Golden Belt back-to-back, famously defeating legends like Recep Kara in the final. These victories solidified his status as a “Mega Star” of the field, known for his unique “paça” (leg) techniques and defensive stability. His mastery of both the mat and the grass allowed him to represent Turkey at the European Championships, where he also secured several international medals in freestyle wrestling before fully committing to the oil wrestling circuit.
Throughout the 2010s and early 2020s, Yeşil remains a constant threat in the CW Enerji Turkey Oil Wrestling League. Representing the Ankara Büyükşehir Belediyesi for much of his career before moving to Antalya-based clubs, he has shared the grass in epic battles with rivals such as Ali Gürbüz, Orhan Okulu, and İsmail Balaban. His career is characterized by longevity and high-level consistency, making him a Model athlete for the younger generation of “Pehlivans” who prioritize technique over raw power.
2026: The Veteran’s Strategic Campaign and Mentorship
As of 2026, Mehmet Yeşil Yeşil continues to compete at the highest level, serving as the most experienced active Chief Pehlivan in the league. Entering the 2026 season with a focus on tactical matches, he has successfully adapted his style to match the speed of younger competitors. Currently competing for Manavgat Belediyespor, Yeşil has taken on a dual role as both a top-tier competitor and a mentor to the club’s rising talents. His participation in the 2026 Manavgat and Kumluca festivals showed that his technical sharpness remains intact, frequently reaching the final rounds through his superior tactical IQ.
The 2026 season has seen Yeşil focusing on the “League Points” system to maintain his top-seeded position for the 665th Kırkpınar. In early 2026, he participated in the 2. Gölmarmara Oil Wrestling tournament, engaging in a high-technical bout against Ali Yanatma. While he acknowledges the physical demands of the sport at age 40, his 2026 performances suggest that the “Altın Puan Ustası” is far from retirement, aiming to leave a lasting mark on the 2026 championship cycle before transitioning into a full-time coaching or administrative role within the Turkish Wrestling Federation.
Personal Life: A Legacy Beyond the Field
Mehmet Yeşil Yeşil is as much a scholar and a professional as he is an athlete. He is a graduate of Karamanoğlu Mehmet Bey University with a degree in Physical Education and has served as a teacher, embodying the “Pehlivan” ideal of being both physically and intellectually developed. He is married to Edanur Şeker Yeşil (married in 2021) and the couple has a son, Süleyman Yeşil Yeşil (born in 2021), named after Mehmet’s father.
