İbrahim Tatlıses Announces Surprising Will: “I Will Donate My Entire Fortune to the State”
The legendary voice of Turkish Arabesque music, İbrahim Tatlıses, has once again made headlines with a bombshell announcement regarding his inheritance. Following a high-risk surgery and a period in intensive care in April 2026, the 74-year-old artist declared that he would not leave a single penny to his children, opting instead to donate his entire wealth to the Republic of Türkiye.
Why Was İbrahim Tatlıses in Intensive Care?
On April 7, 2026, İbrahim Tatlıses was rushed to Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital in Istanbul after fainting at his home. He was suffering from high fever, low blood pressure, and extreme fatigue. Medical examinations revealed a severe bacterial infection caused by cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder).
Due to the severity of the infection and his use of blood thinners, doctors initially kept him in the intensive care unit (ICU) to stabilize his condition. On April 11, he underwent a complex gallbladder surgery. After a successful recovery period, he was officially discharged on April 22, 2026, approximately 15 days after his admission.
Family Crisis at the Hospital Door
While Tatlıses was fighting for his health, a different kind of tension was brewing in the hospital corridors. His eldest son, Ahmet Tatlı, and daughter, Dilan Çıtak, with whom he has long-standing legal and personal disputes, came to visit him despite existing restraining orders.
Although the children expressed their love and support to the press, stating that “family comes first during health crises,” Tatlıses was reportedly furious. Upon leaving the hospital, the artist made it clear that their presence did not mend any broken bridges, saying, “If it weren’t for certain people, I wouldn’t have let them through my door”.
The Shocking Will: “Not a Single Penny for the Kids”
Standing before reporters after his discharge, Tatlıses shocked everyone with his definitive stance on his inheritance. He announced that he had decided to bequeath his entire fortune to the state. He stated, “I earned my money myself. I will do whatever I want with it. There is not a single penny for anyone else”.
The artist’s vast assets, which reportedly include numerous luxury properties, businesses, and significant financial holdings, are now at the center of a legal debate.
Legal Perspective: Is It Possible to Donate Everything?
Under the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, specifically the Turkish Civil Code, completely disinheriting children is not as straightforward as it may seem.
- Reserved Portions (Saklı Pay): Children are considered “reserved portion” heirs. By law, they are entitled to a specific percentage of the inheritance (usually half of what they would normally receive), which the deceased cannot signed away unless there are very specific grounds for disinheritance (such as a physical attack on the parent or a serious crime).
- Vesayet (Guardianship) Cases: Tatlıses has also been involved in ongoing legal battles regarding his mental competency and the management of his assets (guardianship/vesayet cases) with his son Ahmet. If a court determines that his decision-making is impaired, his ability to change his will could be legally challenged.
While the “Emperor” has made his wishes clear to the public, legal experts suggest that his children might still have the right to claim their “reserved portions” in the future unless the strict conditions for total disinheritance are proven in court.
