The Shift from Ali Koç to Sadettin Saran – History, Squad & Trophies

Fenerbahçe Sports Club, one of Turkey’s most storied athletic institutions, has entered a transformative period following a high-stakes leadership race between two prominent figures: Ali Koç and Sadettin Saran. This transition marks the end of a significant chapter and the beginning of a new vision for the Yellow Canaries.

Ali Koç’s presidency began in June 2018, when he won a historic election against long-term president Aziz Yıldırım. Koç served as the club’s 37th president for seven years, focusing on financial restructuring and modernizing the club’s corporate identity. Despite his immense efforts, his tenure was often characterized by the club’s intense pursuit of a Süper Lig title, which remained the primary expectation of the fanbase throughout his three terms.

Sadettin Saran is no stranger to the inner workings of Fenerbahçe. Before taking the helm, he built a reputation as a successful businessman and sports enthusiast. During the Aziz Yıldırım era, Saran served as a board member and was notably in charge of the football branch. His deep-rooted history with the club, combined with his expertise in media and sports management through the Saran Group, positioned him as a strong challenger.

The leadership rivalry culminated in an extraordinary elective general assembly in September 2025. In a closely contested race, Sadettin Saran emerged victorious, ending Ali Koç’s seven-year reign.

The official handover ceremony took place on September 25, 2025, where Ali Koç formally transferred the presidency to Sadettin Saran. During the ceremony, Saran received his mandate, signaling a fresh start for the club as it aims to return to its championship days under new leadership.

As the Saran era begins, the Fenerbahçe community remains hopeful that this change will bring the long-awaited sporting success and stability to the Kadıköy-based giants.
